Poker (Rules)

Familiar the world over, poker is arguably the most popular card games on Earth. There are many different versions of poker all with generally the same structure. All versions of the game consist of there seven basics Terms: Ante, Call, Check, Fold, Hand, Pot, and Raise.

Ante:
Before the players see their cards they must put up the Ante. The Ante is the first bet in the game. All players must wager an amount equal to the Ante.

Call:
When you "Call", you're telling another player to either match your existing bet, "Fold", or "Check". If the person matches the bet, he/she is then entitled to "Raise".

Check:
If a player refuses to Call he/she may "Check" forcing another player Call.

Raise:
To "Raise" is to increasing the amount of a bet, thus increasing the amount of the Pot.

Pot:
The Pot is the sum of all bets accumulated while playing a "Hand". The "Pot" is taken by the player with the best "Hand".

Hand:
Your hand is basically your cards dealt to you. Depending on the version of Poker being played, you may discard cards to receiving new ones. This will give you a chance of bettering an existing hand. The amount of cards being discarded also depends upon the particular rules of that game. There are many different types of hand you receive depending on how lucky you get.

(There "Hands" are shown in order, each hand that proceeds the next beats that last. If a Tie should occur the highest ranked card wins.)

One Pair:
A "Pair" is any two matching cards. Example: two 4's (4/4) suit does not matter.

Two Pair:
"Two Pair" are any two sets of matching cards.
Example: two 10's & two Jack's (10/10 & J/J) suit does not matter.

Three of a Kind:
"Three of a Kind" is when you have three of any matching cards.
Example: three Ace's (A/A/A) suit does not matter.

Straight:
A "Straight" is when a player has five cards in order ranging from low to high.
Example: Ten, Jack, Queen, King, Ace (10/J/Q/K/A) suit does not matter.

Flush:
A "Flush" is when a player has five cards of the same suit.
Example: 5 cards, all being Diamonds (2D/5D/9D/QD/KD) order does not matter.

Full House:
A "Full House" is when a player has "Three of a Kind" as well as a "Pair".
Example: three 8's and two Jack's (8/8/8/J/J) suit does not matter.

Four of a Kind:
"Four of a Kind" is when a player has any four matching cards.
Example: four 5's (5/5/5/5) suit does not matter.

Straight Flush:
A "Straight Flush" is five cards in order from low to high, all having the same suit. Example: Five of Diamonds, Six of Diamonds, Seven of Diamonds, Eight of Diamonds, and Nine of Diamonds (5D/6D/7D/8D/9D).

Royal Flush:
A Royal Flush is the five highest ranked cards, all of which have the same suit.
Example: Ten of Hearts, Jack of Hearts, Queen of Hearts, King of Hearts, and Ace of Hearts (10H/JH/QH/KH/AH).
